History of the C.D.C. The C.D.C. continues to be a unique project in Nigeria, bringing together services under one roof. At the same time believing strongly for inclusion for all children with support. Our journey began in 1992m with the initial step of Dr. Yinka Akindayomi taking a look at services available for children with disabilities. Due to her own personal experience, and training things begun to take shape between 1994-1996 With Dr. Akindayomi, Ciby Herzfield Kimbrough (Clinical Psychologist and Special Educator) and Donna Zwarkruis, a care group developed. In 1995, our first set of tutors (4) were employed to begin community work, by going to the child at home. Though the core group moved on by 1996 to become a more structured entity, developing into three boards. The CDC was able to co-ordinate a certain level of services for children with various types of disabilities and severity. Within a year, the population of children registered began to explode such that by the end of 1998, we were serving close to 200 children in defferent circumstances, this has since been on the rise. Parents continue to face great challenges in looking for appropriate and relevant services for their children. There is also the issue of finances, a fragmented services, increases in financial burden of parents. C.D.C. still remains a low-cost, organisation providing services.
Trustees, Directors and Advisory Board, which govern the operations. However, the advisory board plays a very important role in planning services and events. It continues to consist of people in the community and parents who help build up services and champion the causes of C.D.C. Their input ranges from fund raising, advocacy of right programme development. email: cdc@alpha.linkserve.com
